The Union supports brain science in various opportunities, including planning of “Master Plan 2014” and submitting reports for the Brain Science Committee of MEXT. Neuroscience Research has been playing an important role in the field of neuroscience as an official journal of the Japan Neuroscience Society. In recent years, the environment of scientific publishing has been changing drastically, such as the growth of electronic and open access publishing. In this workshop, we would like to have an open discussion on possible actions to further develop our official journal Neuroscience Research, including the possibility for launching an open access sister journal. In prior to the free discussion, Ross Hildrew, Senior Publisher of Neuroscience section of Elsevier, will give and overview of the current publishing environment in neuroscience field, especially focusing on electronic and open-access publishing.
